Head of Engineering
Rapid Liquid Print is seeking Head of Engineering to coordinate and lead the various teams in the development and productization of RLP hardware, software, and material portfolio. The head of engineering is the conduit between these three key pillars of the RLP technology with the business and product direction of the company. This role requires a technical leader with a strong systems-thinking mindset, deep experience in product development cycles, and a passion for 3D printing technologies.
More than anyone at the company, you will be responsible for keeping a holistic understanding of all of the aspects of the RLP system. At this high level you will recognize bottlenecks in the system and work with the product and sales team to prioritize the work of the engineering teams. You will work with external contractors and manufacturers in addition to the internal team to bring exciting new technologies into existence.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Leadership and Strategy
- Define and execute the engineering vision and roadmap in alignment with company goals.
- Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing, transdisciplinary engineering team.
- Foster collaboration between software, hardware, and materials teams to ensure cohesive product development.
Product Development
- Oversee the design, development, and testing of various RLP subsystems.
- Ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.
- Work with the Materials and Software teams to ensure tight integration between physical and digital solutions.
- Ensure scalability, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance of engineering outputs.
Promote Constant Improvement
- Keep a regular cadence of learning from the engineering team about new developments or ideas to constantly improve and guide the product development direction of the company.
- Ensure that the engineering team maintains a healthy balance between product development and novel research.
- Implement best practices for engineering processes, documentation, testing, and release management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in product development for complex electromechanical systems (preferably in 3D printing or advanced manufacturing).
- Strong understanding of additive manufacturing technologies, polymer chemistry, and software development.
- Experience with CAD, CAM, firmware development, and cloud-based software platforms.
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and team-building skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment.
